The SAFETI (Safety Abroad First - Educational Travel Information) Clearinghouse was initiated in 1998 to create and disseminate resources to support study abroad program development and implementation, emphasizing health and safety issues and resources for U.S. colleges and universities supporting study abroad. This has been made possible using a World Wide Web-based Clearinghouse format, enhancing collaboration among higher education institutions, government, and non-governmental organizations. The SAFETI Clearinghouse was initially funded through support by FIPSE (the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education) of the U.S. Department of Education. It is a resource of the Center for Global Education at Loyola Marymount University. Since 1998, the SAFETI Clearinghouse has developed many resources and provided a wide variety of information to serve as a leading national resource for the study abroad field. The Center has also supported enhanced connections between study abroad offices at U.S. colleges and universities and other departments across campus as well as increased collaboration and support with U.S. government agencies. The following institutions were involved in the development of the SAFETI Clearinghouse with initial FIPSE funding for Project Partners and have been important in the development of SAFETI resources and the SAFETI Clearinghouse.
Along with partner institutions, other colleges and universities have become affiliated with these efforts as SAFETI Consortium Members. The additional content you find in this website will provide you with information and resources to support enhanced health and safety for study abroad .
