Overseas Program Guidelines, Page Two
During orientation the Faculty/Program Coordinator should do the following:
Inform participants of the mandatory student health insurance coverage applicable to overseas study programs, and provide them the written material that explains how to obtain the coverage.
Confirm that a list of all student participants in the program has been forwarded to the Student Health Center insurance office so that students can be added to the health insurance policy.
Inform participants that all University student-conduct policies applicable on campus also apply overseas, including policies on alcohol and drug use, as well as sexual misconduct. These policies can be found in SCAMPUS.
Ensure that students have been given the U.S. State Department and Center for Disease Control information regarding the country of origin; that they are aware of any potential risks, transportation issues, and health hazards, so that they make an informed decision concerning their participation and behavior on the program.
Ensure that students have read and signed the University Release of Liability form as prepared by the General Counsel's Office.
Inform students of the trip itinerary and of any potential "side trips" or other excursions.
Provide students the "How Students Should Prepare for Overseas Study" document as prepared by the Safety & Risk Management Department.
Determine that all students have received all necessary inoculations.
Ensure that all students have made known to the Faculty/Program Coordinator any special medical, physical/psychological, or dietary conditions which exist for them, and that appropriate steps have been taken to accommodate their needs.
Describe to all participants what constitutes acceptable behavior and conduct while in the program, and what the consequences are should they violate these standards.
Ascertain that all students and/or parents/guardians have signed the "Medical Treatment Authorization" form, which allows the University to authorize necessary medical treatment in a foreign country.
