STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS


NEW STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS TO BE ANNOUNCED IN SEPTEMBER 2004

Student Scholarships: Awards of up to $500 are given

CCIE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The CCIE Student Scholarship is awarded to any student who attends a CCIE member college and participates in an internationally oriented program. In case a student is unable to claim their award, the money will be returned to CCIE and given to competition alternates. Awards will be considered for students who enroll in a CCIE member college study abroad program for Summer Session 2003, Fall Semester 2003, or Spring Semester 2004. Awards will be considered for students who help initiate, organize, or sponsor a domestic college-based internationally themed program

  1. Student must provide a 500 word essay describing
    • why s/he wants to attend the study abroad program or be involved in a college-based internationally themed program
    • why s/he wants to learn/master a new language or experience a new culture if studying abroad;
    • why s/he wants to become involved in a campus-based international program if staying on-campus;
    • future goals from knowledge s/he will attain as a result of gained international literacy
    • how will international experiences affect their future career decisions;
    • how the international experience will affect their future academic work.
    • why s/he deserves the award
  2. Student submits transcripts
  3. Student must submit one letter of reference.

FACULTY/STAFF GRANTS


Faculty/Staff Grant awards of up to $500 are given

CCIE is not able to award a Faculty/Staff Grant for 2003 – but hopefully will be able to award this again in 2004. The guidelines are:

REQUIREMENTS

All Full-Time Faculty, Staff and Administrators at CCIE member colleges, current with their dues, are eligible. The Faculty/Staff grant is awarded for the following purposes:

  1. Creation of a new program that involves:
    • Internationalizing the Curriculum; International Business; International Development; International Faculty Exchanges or other International programs.
    • A.A. Degree/Certificate program in International Studies or International Business
    • other programs with an international theme
  2. Creation of a Speakers program that will promote international education among faculty and students at the campus
  3. Internationalizing 3-5 lessons of a class or introduction of a new fully internationalized class:
    • must demonstrate that the class is already not internationalized and/or that there will be a shift in focus form away from an ethnocentric orientation to encompass more cross-cultural perspectives.
    • must work with an international curriculum expert to assure quality of module
    • must demonstrate how the class will benefit from the internationalization of the module.
    • must demonstrate that the class will be offered at least once a year.
  4. Utilization of money to help finance a research trip overseas
    • must demonstrate that the trip is academic in nature
    • must demonstrate how the information gathered will be utilized in the class
    • must create a lesson plan using information from the trip
    • must work with an international curriculum expert to assure quality of class curriculum.

GRANT APPLICATION

  1. Applicant must provide a 500 word essay describing:
    • what they want to do with the money
    • how they plan to implement this new program
    • how plan will benefit their students and college
    • how proposed course improvements/research will be of direct benefit to their students and to their college
  2. Applicant must provide support materials to show that the produced agenda will be implemented. Letters from the following are required:
    • Academic senate president
    • College president and/or Chancellor
    • Vice President of Academic Affairs and/or Instruction.
